We have Faith in an Indiana

where everyone can thrive,

no exceptions.

Today, with both heavy hearts and immense pride, we announce the conclusion of Faith in Indiana's journey as an organization. This decision is not an end but a celebration—a recognition of the extraordinary achievements, enduring impact, and the community of individuals who made it all possible.

Faith in Indiana was born from the belief that organized people have the power to change systems, narratives, and lives. Over the years, this belief has come to life in countless ways. Together, we have built a movement grounded in faith, justice, and love, bringing transformative change to our neighborhoods, cities, and state.

Our efforts have led to remarkable milestones that have transformed our communities. In Indianapolis, criminal homicides down by an unprecedented 30%, thanks to the implementation of a $150 million Gun Violence Reduction Strategy. We also championed the groundbreaking $100 million mental health care system overhaul through Senate Bill 1, which funds clinician-led crisis response teams across central Indiana and beyond. We successfully stopped the expansion of the jail system and brought greater accountability to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. When our neighbors faced the threat of deportation, we stood alongside them—accompanying them to hearings and workplaces to ensure they remained in our neighborhoods and with their families. After years of persistent advocacy, we secured funding for the Red, Purple, and Blue BRT lines, giving thousands in our communities access to faster, safer, and more reliable transportation to work, healthcare, education, and other essential services. These accomplishments are not just statistics; they represent lives saved, hope renewed, and futures rebuilt. Through it all, Faith in Indiana has remained at the forefront of voter engagement, empowering tens of thousands to take action and shape the policies that directly impact their lives.

These victories were only possible because of you—the faith leaders, grassroots organizers, volunteers, and community members who lent your voices, hands, and hearts to this work. Your courage and commitment have been a beacon of hope, proving time and again that when we stand together, we can accomplish the extraordinary.

As we reflect on all that has been achieved, we are filled with gratitude for the partnerships and friendships that have fueled this work. You have not only strengthened Faith in Indiana; you have made our neighborhoods safer, our systems more just.

While Faith in Indiana as an organization comes to a close, its legacy will endure in the work of those who continue to fight for justice, in the policies and systems we’ve reshaped, and in the lives we’ve touched. The seeds we’ve sown together will continue to grow and bear fruit for years to come.

To everyone who has been part of this journey: thank you. Thank you for believing in the power of community, for taking bold action, and for loving our neighbors as ourselves. Our city and state are better because of you, and the ripple effects of your efforts will be felt for generations.

Faith in Indiana's story is a testament to what is possible when faith and justice converge. Though this chapter closes, the movement lives on—in every person who dares to dream of a better world and takes steps to make it a reality.

In faith and gratitude,
Faith in Indiana

Our Impact

  • A Call for Care

A call for help during a mental health crisis should never end in the death of a loved one. But that has been the tragic experience of numerous Indiana families. And with 80 percent of our inmate population experiencing a mental illness, Indiana needed a better option.

Faith in Indiana led ‘A Call for Care’ Campaign, an unprecedented coalition of faith, business, and community organizations, to Indiana’s overhaul of its crisis care system to the tune of $100 million. Now, many Hoosiers have a place to call, a person to come, and a place to go during moments of crisis.

  • Transform Law Enforcement

In the wake of the 2020 reckoning for racial justice, and a string of police murders, Faith in Indiana leaders passed the strongest oversight body of law enforcement in the nation. Leveraging the power of the new general orders board, the community advanced a host of measures aimed at keeping us safe; progressive discipline, data transparency, use-of-force controls.

These measures, and our organizing, led to officers being charged with homicide for the first time in the history of Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. We are working toward safe communities where law enforcement is accountable to the communities it serves.

  • Gun Violence Reduction

At Faith in Indiana, we believe every child and adult deserves to live in a safe, stable community. But that’s not the reality for hundreds of thousands of Hoosiers, especially those in black and brown communities.

In 2021, we led efforts to implement the Gun Violence Reduction Strategy in Indianapolis. The intervention program led to a 16 percent decrease in gun violence in 2022 — the largest year-over-year reduction in the city’s history.
