BEECH GROVE, Ind. — A Beech Grove High School graduate who was facing deportation has returned to Mexico.
Erica Fierro would have been forcibly deported on Wednesday, but instead, she decided to leave the U.S. and drove to Mexico Tuesday night.
An Indianapolis priest helped Fierro drive the family van with their belongings to the border.
Following a meeting in May, federal immigration officers told Fierro she could bring her children, ages 8 and three, with her when she left the country.
She was afraid they would have to go into foster care because U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement would not allow the children to get passports so they could travel to Mexico.
Fierro was brought to the U.S. by her parents when she was 5 years old.
