How We Work
Why do we talk about self-interest?
While community organizing is often associated with altruism and collective action, understanding and harnessing self-interest among individuals within a community can be a powerful motivator for driving meaningful change.
People are more likely to get involved and actively participate in community organizing efforts when they perceive a direct connection between the issues at hand and their own lives.
When individuals realize that their participation can influence policy decisions that directly affect their lives, they feel a sense of empowerment and ownership in the process. This sense of agency can lead to increased engagement and a stronger commitment to the cause.
By demonstrating how people’s well-being and aspirations are directly tied to the outcomes of the organizing efforts, we can mobilize a motivated, empowered, and diverse group of individuals who are committed to achieving lasting and meaningful change.
What do we do?
Faith in Indiana is a multi-racial, interfaith organizing coalition that aims to create an Indiana where everyone can thrive. Unlike traditional activism, which often focuses on immediate changes, Faith in Indiana adopts a comprehensive, long-term approach to tackle deeply rooted infrastructures and systems. This strategy involves collaboration, engagement, and advocacy to effect lasting and meaningful change in areas such as mental health, violence reduction, transportation, environmental issues, and housing.
